The speaker has met a problem that his appointment to the dentist has been arranged right in the exact time of his study group for French. There are two solutions for him. First of all, he can cancel the dentist appointment, but the dentist is quite busy and he's not sure of the next proper appointment and he has to suffer during the period. Secondly, he can skip the study group, but there's a test coming and he thinks the discussion will help. Personally, I think the second solution is better, because he cannot focus as well when his tooth aches and he can borrow notes from group members or ask them to record the discussion.
