 It is an invaluable thing to keep relationship with some friends for a long time, as friendship improves happiness, alleviates misery and supplies help, which is significant in the process of producing happiness. Firstly, friends who accompany you for a long time are always sincerely nice to you from heart and soul, which means that these friends have a better understanding of your feelings and troubles, hence they can detect your negative emotions and give your comforts at first time. Under the circumstances, provided that you have some depressing things that are requiring talking with them, they can give you a shoulder to cry on, listen to your complaints carefully and sympathetically and even give you a hand to address those troubles, which helps you get rid of bad feelings, regain confidence in your life and attain the happiness again. Therefore, retaining some friends for a longtime is beneficial to someone to gain happiness and have a positive life attitude.

Secondly, getting along with old friends that you are familiar with for a longtime is more comfortable than dealing with new friends, since old friends know your temper and also know your nature, so they will not be angry about what you have said or done. With this in mind, when getting along with them, you don't need to pay more heed to whether what I said will make them unhappy or not, the most appropriate thing you should do is to do yourself. Moreover, of major importance is the fact that true friendship comes when the silence between two people is comfortable, hence the atmosphere will not get awkward, if you have nothing to say to them, which helps you gain more happiness in a long run owing to the good relationship. Therefore, having the company of old friends will preserve you in a cozy circle, since you just be yourself.

To sum up, from thees two standpoints, I think  that the method of  gaining more happiness is to maintain a small number of friends for a long time, because not only can help you escape from bad things, but also it is more comfortable to stay with old friends.
